HYDRA in Focus and its Link to ARCHIMEDES
On Wednesday 15th October, AdvanTec GmbH participated in the Advanced Air Mobility Forum 2025, hosted by bavAIRia in Oberpfaffenhofen. The event offered an ideal platform to engage with experts from industry, research, and government on the future of unmanned systems and connected mobility.
The highlight of our presence was the presentation of the HYDRA project, an unmanned aerial system (UAS) with 2 t MTOM (Maximum Takeoff Mass), designed for dual-use missions—serving both civilian and security applications. We showcased HYDRA to a technically versed audience and received valuable feedback and insights on operational scenarios, technical challenges, and possible collaborations. The reception was very positive, and we established numerous promising contacts that we aim to pursue in the months ahead.
Our presentation focused primarily on HYDRA. In that context, however, we also emphasized our collaboration with the ARCHIMEDES project, because central research outputs from ARCHIMEDES flow directly into HYDRA and enrich its technological development.
The ARCHIMEDES team was not physically present at this event; nevertheless, our commitment to ARCHIMEDES remains a significant component of our research strategy. We continue to pursue the project in parallel and actively exploit its findings in the ongoing evolution of HYDRA.
The AAM Forum 2025 is gaining increasing importance in Germany and Europe as a central meeting point in the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem. The event allows participants not only to perceive emerging trends but also to actively engage with current challenges—from regulatory frameworks and infrastructure to technology integration, data systems, and public acceptance. Topics such as drone detection and countermeasures, business models for operators, logistic networking, airspace integration, and collaboration with authorities dominated many discussion sessions and workshops.
For AdvanTec, participating in the AAM Forum 2025 yielded several benefits:
- We had the opportunity to present HYDRA to a knowledgeable audience and gained valuable impulses and constructive critique.
- We held strategic conversations with potential partners—from component manufacturers and research institutions to regulatory bodies.
- We strengthened our position and visibility in the AAM community and underscored our role as an innovator in unmanned systems.
We offer our sincere thanks to bavAIRia for the invitation to AAM Forum 2025 and excellent organization, and to all participants for the inspiring conversations and lively exchange.
Looking ahead, we plan to convert the newly formed contacts and collected ideas into concrete actions. The further development of HYDRA will be consistently advanced, and we will thoroughly explore where synergies with ARCHIMEDES can be deepened further.
Stay tuned: shortly we will report on new partnerships, technical advances, and achieved milestones. Visit our website regularly for updates—or get in touch with us directly if you are interested in collaborating.
